Epagneul Bretons of the Southwest Trial 2023
Epagneul Bretons of the Southwest Field Trial ‑ October 20 - 21, 2023
Paulden, AZ
Nellie, Teddy, Penny, Ruby and Tessie participated in the October liberated trial held in the Prescott National Forest near Paulden, Arizona. Dry and dusty conditions didn't seem to hamper the dogs' ability to locate birds and all dogs performed well. Nellie and Teddy should have led the pack, but both got too excited and broke on shot, although they worked the field well and pointed beautifully. Penny was the star in her Open class run, with perfect finds, points and a nice retrieve, earning praise from the judge and a first place ribbon for a CAC pass toward a title. Ruby also had a nice run and points. Her retrieve was less than stellar, but she managed to deliver. She ran twice in the Gun class and came home with second place (RCAG) and two passes toward a UKC Gun title. We entered 15-month-old Tessie for the experience of finding and chasing birds and learning that she can't catch them. One of our pups "Roscoe" from our 2020 litter with Nellie and Big Boss was there with his owner, and earned a High Natural Quality award. It was a fun event with visiting judges Josh Ruiter from Pennsylvania and Tasha Pleskac from Minnesota, and special guest Tracey Jacobson, the CEB president from South Dakota.
