Training Programs

We have trained many of our own dogs over the years and continue to do so, specializing in gun dog and hunt test training programs. We also accept clients' dogs for training along with ours.

Our programs concentrate on gun dog training for hunting as well as training for field trials sponsored by NAVHDA, AKC, UKC, and NSTRA.

We prefer to train with “soft touch and gentle reminders” that bring out the best in your hunting companion, using the methods developed and made famous by the legendary Bill West and Bill Gibbons. Training is uncomplicated, using only a check-cord, a pinch collar, an e-collar, lots of repetition, and of course … birds, birds, birds!

Puppy Program

●  Introduction to birds

●  Introduction to gun

●  Hunting/quartering/“here” command

●  Stop to flush

●  Introduction to e-collar

●  Steady to flush

This program usually runs for two months.

Gun Dog Program

Includes puppy program skills in addition to:

●  Steady to wing (most will be steady to wing and shot)

●  Introduction to backing

●  Forced retrieve training (available at additional cost)

This program usually runs 45 to 60 days following puppy training
